Euchre scoring
Who scores what, in the rules the app plays: 1 for the hand, 2 for a march or a euchre, 4 for a loner that takes all five. Every score drawn as the app draws it.
The points
The side that made trump are the makers; they need three of the five tricks. The other side are the defenders. The cards show a side going from 6 to its new score.
Sources: pagat.com, Bicycle and the Semi-Official Euchre Home Page give the same table. Some pages say each trick is a point; it is not. Three or four tricks score 1, all five score 2.
Every score, in cards
Each side keeps a six and a four of one color. Up to 6, the six shows the points and the four lies face down behind it. From 7, the four comes out and shows the rest. At 10 both cards show in full. In the app, you keep the six of spades and the four of clubs; the other side keeps hearts and diamonds.
Going alone, by rule set
The app plays five rule sets. The points are the same in all of them; who may go alone differs.
- Standard (rated play): only the player who made trump may go alone. The partner sits out. All five tricks score 4, three or four score 1, and a euchre gives the defenders 2.
- Defend alone: a defender may also go alone, but only against a loner. A lone defender who euchres the maker scores 4.
- Ontario: the dealer's partner who orders up must go alone.
- Throw-in and Quick score as Standard. Quick plays to 5.
The game
First to 10 wins. Bicycle allows 5, 7 or 10, agreed before the game; pagat.com and the Semi-Official page give 10 for North America. A side one point from winning is in the barn.
